| Maytree Opinion: Ratna Omidvar on Leadership Envy | Many Canadians are looking south of the border with leadership envy. President-elect Barack Obama is not only a different leader by virtue of his life experiences and personal narrative, but he does leadership differently. He is more inclusive, he reaches across differences and he uses new approaches and creates excitement with new ideas. We too can have our own Obama. But to do so requires us to get intentional and strategic about creating genuine opportunities for new leadership to emerge. Read this month’s Opinion. |

Gaps in benefits leaves millions without disability supports: New Policy in Focus |
Maytree Policy in Focus identifies and shares practical research to help inform policy and decision-making. In this next issue Maytree summarizes research and recommendations from the Caledon Institute of Social Policy on the availability of disability supports. Findings indicate that 3.6 million Canadians have a condition that limits their daily activities. For those suffering recurring disabilities, there are few if any supports available and those with supports have limited ability to supplement their wages with paid employment. Twenty-seven percent of working age adults with disabilities experience low income, compared with 14% of the overall population. Download Policy in Focus.
